At Swaffham Infant and Nursery School we use a variety of approaches to ensure that the children have the best possible experience of learning. One such approach is the use of an 'immersive environment.'
The immersive environment works on the principle of allowing the children to become fully immersed in their learning through the environment in which they learn. At the start of each new topic the children come into a newly decorated classroom (a hook) that represents that terms topic. For example; if the topic for the half term is rainforests then the classroom would be decorated with everything associated with a rainforest (trees, plants, vines, flowers, animals etc). The immersive environment helps the children to really feel part of their learning and gives a real life experience of the topic that they are learning.
Examples of the immersive environment are below;
